Pause for Thought...365 Days of Drawing

I dedicate today's post to a wonderful artist friend of mine, and great supporters of many artists, Michele, who suddenly passed away this weekend, way too young. Puts EVERYTHING into perspective. GO TAKE ON THE DAY!

This is a more finished drawing, done this weekend over two sittings on Saturday and Sunday, total drawing time about two hours, with pastel. I post the progression.

This is a lovely drawing, it has a lot of depth and personality. (The drawing and the face)I am sorry to hear about the loss of your artist friend. As artists, we must trudge on. Sometimes I feel that I am trudging through some deep snow, with poor visibility, not sure which path to create. If we keep going, we will find something. If we stop we have nothing. I hear what you are saying about blogging, facebook etc. and I can't say how many times I have been close to wiping everything off the virtual world in frustration. But whatever keeps us working and motivated is a good thing. Whatever makes us rise to a challenge can't be all bad. We must trudge on.
Plus, all of us out here wouldn't have had the chance to learn from you and view your beautiful work.

Thanks for your thoughtful post Catherine...blogging and FB kept me doing the challenge. That I do know. I will be in the virtual world far less often come January 2nd.

Johanna, I so so sorry to of the loss of your friend. And even more tragic that she lost her life so young. Is this a portrait of her? There is such calmness, kindness and beauty in her expression.

Thank you Gwen. No, this was not of my friend. But I will shortly do one. She was laid to rest today in fact. I liked this portrait. Glad you did too!
