On Location In Malibu Show

A great opening reception this weekend for the  "California Art Club On Location In Malibu" show at the Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art. Thanks to all who came to the packed reception,  Michael Zakian for curating a great show, and The California Art Club for all they do for us artists.

The show, which is a great one featuring some stunning Malibu vistas, runs until August 2nd. Catch the details here

I Painted Gidget!

Honored to meet and paint the original Gidget Kathy Zuckerman for my Face of Malibu Series.
She helped put surfing on the map in the 50's when her father wrote his famous book seeing Kathy's life on the beach.  The book went on to become the Gidget phenomena in a film of the same name starring Sally Field.


Kathy, a wonderful spirit,  is the 30th sitter to be painted for my second public portrait project The Face of Malibu with The Malibu Times, the project now in its' third year. The Face of Ventura came before with The Ventura Breeze newspaper, that collection now in the permanent collection of the Museum of Ventura County.

In Remembrance of Glen Orbik

I am shameless in my enjoyment seeking to paint bright sunshine filled days, filled with color and happiness and some of my lovely friends who sit for me.  The joy of being alive. I am excited to wake up today and start such a new painting along with the portrait commissions I am working on.

I am also grateful to have another day with my art as this week I remember with great fondness artist Glen Orbik who sadly passed away way too young. He inspired a generation of artists in Los Angeles. A terrific artist of the highest calibre leaving a huge legacy. I was honored to be on the faculty with him at The Califonia Art Institute for many years. All the teachers looked up to Orbit with great respect. He was much liked.

Happy Mother's Day Show!

Just finished this painting in time for a Mother's Day show tomorrow at The Alice-Rice Gallery in Laguna Beach. Join us. There is a paint out all day too. Yes, this one will be hanging wet which I am a bit nervous about. Whistler did it all the time though so I am taking a leaf from his book.
