Knife Skills?

22 large palette knife portraits now painted by me, from life,  over the last 36 months for my new "Living Large" series...I have learned they have a mind of their own. Completely uncontrollabe chaos but I am always glas at the end of the sittings, I stuck with them.

What can I say about doing multiple figure compositions? They sure are fun and you have to just 'go for it' and let the brush fly but not before some careful planning. Planning, that is the most important thing.

Every face tells a story...and every portrait artist has the same thought right before an unveiling:"Will they like it?"

Here are a few of my unveilings and my  lovely sitters. Most portraits you see here were painted from life in a single sitting. I dedicate this little YOU Tube to Ventura jazz singer Martha B who died this week and is one of the sitters in the video. Hint...yellow shirt and microphone.

I have reached double digits!!!
My tenth sitter Ms. Sherman Baylin,  Face of Malibu project appearing in The Malibu Times.  Each sitter is painted in a single life sitting reflecting the real folk in this modern day ritzy beach town. This projects follows my Face of Ventura project, those 58 portraits now in the permanent collection of The Museum of Ventura County.

Museum of Ventura County, now home for my FACES!

The Face of Ventura

Permanent Collection, the Museum of Ventura County.

I am thrilled to be able to announce today the Museum of Ventura County is now to be the permanent home to my "Face of Ventura"art project - 58 portraits of 58 extraordinary folk living and working in the wonderful town of Ventura, CA, USA.

All portraits were done in a single life sitting, no photos used, over a two year period. Each sitter's sketch and life story appeared in each edition of The Ventura Breeze thanks to publisher Sheldon Brown. Each sitter also then appeared on the Lyn Fairly and Friends Radio Show.

Thanks to EVERYONE  in the town of Ventura who made this art project so special.  Check out the You Tube from the show reception.
