The Joys of Quick Sketch

I love a bit of quick sketch with pen and ink and watercolor. It can all go south real fast or it can go just right. Fresh and spontaneous.

Today's sketch was somewhere in between. I'll be doing some quick sketch during my summer workshop. Join me. Only a couple of spaces left.

For all you mommies and daddies out there doing the carpool day in, day out, I dedicated this one for you. My quick sketch for today.

I met this little girl as I was oil sketching in Starbucks on the east coast. Her mom had just picked her up from school and she needed a quick snack.. She was as cute as a button. Had to paint fast!

How I remember those days with my kids.

Quick Sketch With A Belly Dancer...

Even belly dancers need a break. This was a super quick sketch demo I did at CAI today in my teaching class. Wish I could have taken it further.

Ever felt that way?

Orange and blue was the color harmony with two light sources set up on the figure, one orange, one blue, to push the theme. This makes it harder for students because it is harder to see the form compared to a raking single source light.

Quite a few students got frustrated with their work for one reason or another...harder for the teacher! No coffee break today for me. I was working flat out.

The model had to move her pose because she was uncomfortable after half an hour of sitting. People complained the about orange and blue lights being in their eyes; two lights on one pose in a teaching room is going to hit someone the wrong way.

YES, it was one of THOSE days! BUT I believe in shaking things up in the teaching room. Shaken but not stirred. Hmmm....

Coffee TAWLK...365 Days Of Drawing

I believe in posting the duds in a daily drawing challenge too and this qualifies. Quick sketch at the local coffee shop. I was in a time-bind, not terribly interested in drawing, the coffee shop was quiet, as in just a few subjects to sketch, people kept moving really fast (all that coffee caffeine tawlk), and I knew I wasn't getting anything worthwhile. Ah well...still good training for the drawing muscle. You look quickly, look away and put down on paper what you just saw. Look up again, the pose has changed or they have moved on.
